Following the events of The Avengers, Tony is traumatized by the implications of the alien invasion, as well as contending with the Mandarin threatening his life and destroying his house. Taking a brief sabbatical in rural Tennessee, he realizes that the world still needs Iron Man and returns to help Colonel Rhodes, now Iron Patriot, save the President of the United States, stop the Mandarin, and prevent a rogue tech CEO from inciting a new war of terror, all before destroying his armors.
