Riverbank Medical Center, New York | MCU Location Scout

Jessica and Trish entering Riverbank morgue.

I’m here from the Medical Examiner’s office. There’s an older male subject that I need to examine.

JESSICA JONES SEASON 1

Jessica drags Trish to a morgue, where she heard on the police scanner that an older man was admitted. She believes she can catch Kilgrave by getting a lead from his father’s dead body.

Based on photographic evidence, this appears to be the Coler-Goldwater Hospital (also known as NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler) located on Roosevelt Island. The location has been used for other shows in the Netflix pantheon, as well as The Exorcist (1973).

DAREDEVIL SEASON 3

Riverbank makes its first appearance on Daredevil in the third season when Karen visits the bedside of abduction victim Mr. Kazemi to get a story from his daughter, Neda. Matt stops by later to make sure they’re okay and let her know that the men responsible are in jail. As he exits the hospital, he overhears that Wilson Fisk has been released from prison by the FBI. Ray visits the hospital in episode 3 to check on the Agents who were injured in the shootout with the Albanians.

For episodes 2 & 3, the Metropolitan Hospital in East Harlem was used. The exterior shots with Matt were instrumental in figuring this one out. A bridge is visible outside the windows in episode 3–it’s the Ward’s Island Bridge crossing the Harlem River.

In episode 7, Karen returns to visit Mitchell Ellison in room B-178, while he is convalescing after the attack at the Bulletin. This room does not appear to have been filmed at the same location as earlier in the season. The buildings outside the window do not match up with any architecture near the Metropolitan Hospital. This may not even be a “real” hospital, since all that is seen is the doorway and the room.

JESSICA JONES SEASON 2

Exterior – Morgue

A quick exterior establishes the Riverbank Medical Center.

For Jessica Jones, the exteriors were shot outside 504 E 5th St, in the East Village, complete with a fictitious sign. This is the same location used for the Tompkins Square Free Clinic in episode 3 of Season 1.

Exterior – Episode 12

Episode 12 is a busy episode at the hospital, as Dorothy urges all people watching her interview to “Pray for my Patsy.” Alisa sees the news report and knows exactly where to find her next victim. Finally, Jessica sneaks out of the hospital, past the police blockade, by hiding in the back og a mortuary van.

The East Harlem Metropolitan Hospital was used for all these exterior shots. Dorothy enters at the main entrance off 2nd Avenue that is closest to E 97th Street. Alisa startles the orderly snacking out back along the E 97th Street driveway closest to 2nd Avenue. Finally, Jessica hops into the mortuary van (which is outside the morgue, ‘natch), which is at the trash alley on the E 99th Street side.

Interior – Morgue

In episode 3, Trish visits the Medical Center, once again, to get help from Murray. This time, it’s providing an autopsy on a severed head found in Leslie Hansen’s furnace, which Jessica sneaks into the morgue. Later, after she is attacked by Alisa in episode 12, the police move her into the morgue for protection.

The interiors for the morgue were again filmed at the Coler-Goldwater Hospital, the same as in Season 1.

Interior – Hallway & Patient Rooms

The last three episodes of the season feature Trish being treated at Riverbank after a near-disastrous encounter with Dr. Malus.

As with Daredevil Season 3, the Metropolitan Hospital was used once again for the interiors of the hospital proper. For scenes in Trish’s room, it appears to be a mix of footage from the actual hospital and a recreated set. The set is evident when Alisa climbs in and jumps out of the window (especially with a camera being on the outside of the building.
