My purpose is to protect K’un-Lun from all oppression. Honour the sacrifice of Shou-Lao the Undying.

Danny Rand has numerous flashbacks throughout season 1 to his time in the mystical city of K’un-Lun, where he was chosen to protect its gates.

These scenes focusing on the mountains and gate of the city were all filmed on a soundstage with matte paintings of mountains behind them. Some of these mountains appear to be based on real Asian mountain ranges, just as the name of the city is based on the Kunlun Mountains in China.

In the comics, K’un-Lun first appeared in Marvel Premiere #15 (February, 1974), the same issue that debuted Danny Rand and Iron Fist.

Caves (Episode 11)

Episode 11 has Davos finding Danny after his encounter with the immortal dragon Shou-Lao in the cave.

The production left the confines of New York City to film this sequence in Dover Plains, NY, at the Dover Stone Church cave in the Hudson Valley.
