Theater Ponce de Leon, San Juan | MCU: Location Scout

An invisible quinjet lands atop the Ponce de Leon Theater.

Hydra’s here in a big way, some abandoned theater.

Theater Exterior

The final showdown for the first half of the season occurs at the Ponce de Leon Theater in San Juan, a fictitious location where HYDRA’s Daniel Whitehall has reunited Skye with her father, Cal. For the exteriors of this location, the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, in San Juan, was used. The interiors were shot in Los Angeles. The map presented in the show puts the theater on the east side of San Juan, closer to the Castillo San Cristóbal, instead of near the west coast.

Interestingly, the interiors of this San Juan landmark were actually seen almost a decade later as a Haitian School where Queen Ramonda tracks down Nakia, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Theater Interior

For the interiors of the Ponce de Leon, a Los Angeles venue–the Variety Arts Theater–was used. This now-defunct Art Deco theater from the early 1920s has been used in many television and film productions, including earlier in the second season. The exterior served as a backdrop for Simmons as she was walking to work.

Bobbi and Hunter track down where Skye is being held, and phone in the location of the theater to Coulson and the team. This exterior was also shot in San Juan, at this plaza outside the Museo de Las Américas and right by the Statue of Don Ricardo Alegría.
