Oh she’s really, most sincerely dead.

The series opens with Agnes O’Connor investigating a mysterious murder in the woods outside Westview. She finds a dead body, barefoot, with blackened fingertips, red hair, and a library book checkout card at the bottom of a ravine.

This sequence, and much of the Agnes of Westview true crime show-within-a-show, is a pitch-perfect homage to Mare of Easttown, a similar style show from HBO Max. There are also elements of the Danish show Forbrydelsen, and its US version, The Killing. The on-screen text identifies this show as being based on Wandavisdysen.

This wooded area isn’t 100% verified, as there’s no Google Street View of the particular road, but it appears that Derieux Terrace, in Stone Mountain, GA, is a very strong candidate. It’s a private road, which makes filming easier. It’s on a downslope by a small river. And it’s heavily wooded.
