I believe Lash’s purpose is to kill Hive.

After having his secret town discovered, Hive has expanded his experiments into an abandoned shopping mall. It is here where Lash meets his fate, saving Daisy from Hive’s sway.

The abandoned Hawthorne Plaza Mall in Hawthorne, CA, was chosen for this sequence. The mall was shut down in 1997 and has also been used for such films as Minority Report, The Green Hornet, and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
