Isn’t that in the Bermuda Triangle? ‘Cause that would explain a lot.

Establishing

Three quick aerial shots establish the location of San Juan, Puerto Rico, using actual footage of the island town. These may be stock footage, or were captured when the production filmed in town for this episode. The first establishing shot above is of Fort San Cristóbal, also known as Castillo San Cristóbal, and is detailed further below.

Two additional shots of the colorful buildings in San Juan are shown. The first is along the shore with buildings rising up the hill from Calle San Miguel. The second image shows other colorful buildings along Bulevar del Valle at the intersection of Calle Bajada Matadero.

Sidewalk, San Juan

Bobbi and Coulson get out of a jeep onto a San Juan street and walk out of frame on their way into Colón Plaza. This was filmed on Calle Tetuán as it opens into a slightly larger plaza area.

Colón Plaza

Coulson and Bobbi walk into Plaza Colón, a central market area in San Juan. Filming actually took place at this plaza, which includes a statue commemorating Christopher Columbus.

Puerta de San Juan

Coulson and Bobbi continue on their way to find an alien city, passing through the Puerta de San Juan. This was the original entryway into the city of San Juan on the west side of town.

Castillo San Cristóbal

Bobbi and Coulson eventually come to Castillo San Cristóbal, the largest Spanish fort built in the New World, which supposedly contains an entrance to an alien city via one of the towers. They stop by several of the sentry towers and even look towards the Devil’s Sentry, which is located in the third image below, right by the water line.

Field, Puerto Rico

This stock shot is of Lumaha’i Beach in Kauai, Hawaii, but meant to be a field in Puerto Rico. The footage was enhanced to show both Coulson’s Quinjet landing in episode 9 and The Bus joining it for episode 10. This same stock shot was used in Season 3 as a Pacific Island housing a SAC missile silo.

Street, San Juan

In episode 10, “What They Become,” Bobbi is joined by Hunter, who follows directions from a contact about HYDRA also being on the island. They cross a cobblestone street in San Juan and head past the camera, which was filmed on Calle de la Fortaleza, on the southwest side of Colón Plaza.

Street Corner, San Juan

In what appears to be a continuation of the shot above, Bobbi and Hunter stop at a street corner. They notice a pair of HYDRA goons and use the old spy-craft trick of kissing in order to avoid being detected. Here they are on the northwest side of Colón Plaza, at the corner of Calle de San Francisco and Calle de O’Donnell.
