High angle into HYDRA research facility during World War 2.

The Red Skull. He’s dead. However, his vision is not.

The season opens with a flashback of a number of HYDRA officers attempting to clear out their research facility, only to be stopped by Agent Carter and the Howling Commandos of the Strategic Scientific Reserve.

The Fort MacArthur Museum in San Pedro provided the necessary aesthetic to replicate a World War 2 military bunker. There is German text in the background of several shots that says Forschungseinrichtung, which translates as “Research Institute.” Unsurprising, since the SSR discovers part of a Kree warrior (seen last season as part of The Guest House), and this season’s main McGuffin, the original 0-8-4, aka The Obelisk/Diviner.

Trivia: The file photo of the original 084 is labeled “Austria, 1944,” not 1945 as the on-screen titles indicate for this scene. Obviously, a small production error with the props.
