In an alternate, branched 1962 timeline, Casey’s variant, who is known as Frank Morris in this timeline, escapes from Alcatraz prison with Clarence Anglin and John Anglin.
This event, much like Loki’s portrayal of DB Cooper in Season 1, is based on a real-life event where three convicts escaped from the island on a homemade raft to never be seen again. In this branched reality, they do end up on a beach, which is presumably Angel Island, their intended destination. This escape attempt was dramatized in the 1979 Clint Eastwood film, Escape from Alcatraz. The Anglin brothers were portrayed by the directors of the episode, Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson.
Since the production was shot exclusively in England, these scenes are all presumed to be shot on a soundstage (or on the back lot) at Pinewood Studios, with much visual effects work used to create the 1962 view of San Francisco.
