Peter and Mary Jane watch shooting stars while reclining on a giant spider web in the park. The do not notice the meteorite that hits near them, or the black goo that climbs out and attaches itself to Peter’s moped.

With the production shooting in Los Angeles, they were able to make use of other facilities not available on the East Coast.  Cinefex 110 indicates that the meteorite crashing to the ground and subsequent shots were filmed at the Golden Oak Ranch in Newhall.
