Dirt Road

Johnny Storm is introduced riding his motorcycle alongside a car with a beautiful woman. They are racing down a dirt road towards the Space Center.

This was filmed along Spit Road in Howe Sound. This is a strip of road in the northern part where the Squamish River flows into the Sound. For the shot of Johnny and the Space Center, above, he is traveling south along the road, with a digital Space Center inserted and the background plate flopped left to right. The image of Reed and Ben with binoculars appears to have been filmed at the Squamish Terminals. Whether the actors were filmed there or just composited in later is unknown.

Gantry

Reed and Ben spy Johnny on his way to the launch site, and Ben voices his displeasure at this hotshot piloting the mission.

For scenes of the duop on the gantry, the production relocated almost 100km south to the Annacis Wastewater Treatment Plant in Delta. One of the storage tanks seen in an establishing shot of Von Doom’s storage facility is seen behind them.
